Jade is a durable stone — 6.5 to 7 on the Mohs scale — but the metals and finishes around it each have their own needs. A soft, damp cloth after wearing is the single best habit for any piece. For deeper cleaning, lukewarm water and mild soap work across jade, solid 18k gold, and sterling silver alike.

Solid 18k gold is the most forgiving — it won't tarnish or corrode, so warm water and a soft cloth are all it ever needs.

Sterling silver naturally darkens over time. A silver polishing cloth brings it right back, and storing in an anti-tarnish pouch slows the process down. Gold-plated and silver-plated pieces need a lighter touch — put jewellery on last, after perfume and lotion, and remove it before water or exercise. That one routine will keep plating intact far longer than most people expect.

Amber is much softer (2–2.5 Mohs) and scratches easily. Keep it away from perfume, hairspray, and alcohol-based products. Clean with a barely damp cloth and dry immediately — never soak it. Store away from direct sunlight and heat.

For other gemstones, the safest rule: avoid chemicals and heat, clean with a damp cloth, and air dry.
