Why Jade Wears Well
Jade commonly refers to jadeite and nephrite. Jadeite is about 6.5 to 7 on the Mohs hardness scale, while nephrite is about 6 to 6.5. These values describe scratch resistance, not impact resistance. Hardness does not guarantee that a piece will survive an impact; nephrite is particularly known for its toughness. Polished jade may feel cool against the skin and smooth to the touch, sometimes described as soapy. Touch and coolness are descriptive qualities, not tests of authenticity.

More Than Green
Imperial green gets much of the attention, but jade can also appear in white, lavender, grey, and honey-orange tones. The pleasure of choosing jade often lies in matching a stone's colour to the person wearing it. White jade can complement cooler skin tones, while lavender jade offers a softer colour option.
Jade and Precious Metals
Jade can be paired with solid 18k gold or settings finished with yellow- or rose-gold plating. Warm yellow gold can emphasise green jade, while rose gold can complement softer tones such as lavender.
Caring for Your Jade
Clean jade with lukewarm water, mild soap, and a soft cloth. Avoid harsh chemicals such as bleach or acetone, sudden temperature changes, and situations where the piece may be dropped or struck. Jade is hard, but it is not unbreakable.
